Athletic Training
ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2025 and after)
*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*
This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area and diversity requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops. The first level (Degree Map Off-track) is placed following grade posting if the student has missed a milestone (course and/or GPA) for the first time in the major. If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student's registration.
** Athletic Training is a “Specialized Admissions” major, meaning that students must complete a separate application process for POSSIBLE admission into the program. Transfer students are STRONGLY encouraged to apply for the Spring semester only as major courses are restricted to formally accepted students. **

Biochemistry, as a science, attempts to understand the chemical basis for all life processes. It draws information from, and has an impact on many fields: chemistry, zoology, botany, microbiology, virology, physiology, pharmacology, genetics, medicine, agriculture, and even ecology. The major is intended to provide the student with a strong background in chemistry, in physics, and in math, together with a broad introduction to biochemistry and biology, which will equip him or her with the tools needed for more specific applications or for advanced, more specialized study.

This degree is designed for students who wish a good knowledge of chemistry as a background for some other field. Examples are pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-veterinarian, oceanography, environmental science and criminology. Other possibilities include a combination of chemistry with areas such as law and business. This degree should not be used by someone planning to work as a chemist directly or planning to do graduate work in Chemistry.

Materials chemistry is a branch of materials science that deals with the synthesis of materials and investigation of their reactivity, stability, and structure-property relationships, both from experimental and theoretical perspectives. Thus, chemists provide the central expertise that bridges the design, implementation, optimization, and application of materials. Materials chemistry is interdisciplinary science that spans multiple branches of chemistry, including inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, and theoretical chemistry. Advances and discoveries in materials chemistry support areas of critical national need, such as generation of clean and efficient energy, synthesis of novel polymers and nanomaterials, development of novel superconductors and magnets, and design of bioinspired materials. The department offers instruction leading to the baccalaureate degree in Materials Chemistry for students planning either careers in the chemical industry or graduate work.

A co-major in Chinese and Japanese consists of 42 total semester hours, including fifteen semester hours of each language numbered above 2200, plus twelve semester hours of 3000-level coursework in Chinese or Japanese culture and literature (CHT and/or JPT prefixes). Of the combined thirty hours of Chinese/Japanese coursework, at least six semester hours must be taken from two 4000-level courses in one language and three semester hours from a 4000-level course in the other language. Students should consult with the Chinese and Japanese advisors to select appropriate courses. All courses taken to fulfill the 42 hours of major coursework must be taken for a letter grade. A grade of C minus or better must be earned in each course applied toward any major or minor degree earned in the department.
Placement tests are available through the FSU Assessment & Testing Facility for French, German and Spanish. Students with prior proficiency in languages other than French, German, and Spanish must consult an advisor in the Department of Modern Languages for proper course placement. If you are placed above a milestone, it is important that you continue with the next milestone in its place. Total hours above 120 vary based on language proficiency level of student.
** Effective Summer 2025, newly matriculated students who planned to pursue the B.A. in [Chinese and Japanese] will be reclassified as pursuing the [Chinese and Japanese] major under the B.A. in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.
Co-majors will be reclassified as pursuing the Dual Languages major under the B.A. in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.
Students pursing the B.A. in [Chinese and Japanese with Business] will be reclassified as pursuing the [Chinese and Japanese] major under the B.A. in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and can then choose one of the business minors offered by the College of Business to meet the College of Arts and Sciences minor requirement.**
