ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Fall 2026 and after)
*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*
This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops. The first level (Degree Map Off-track) is placed following grade posting if the student has missed a milestone (course and/or GPA) for the first time in the major. If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student's registration.
The Environment and Society major consists of 42 hours of major coursework with grades of “C minus“ or higher.
The requirements below are for Fall 2026 admits and forward. However, the Department of Geography will maintain a list of courses grandfathered into the updated course lists through Spring 2028.

Chemistry is a science that deals with the composition, structure, reactivity and properties of substances and of the transformations they undergo. Chemists perform experiments, conduct research, investigate and analyze techniques for basic scientific purposes, and develop new and improved products. Many chemists specialize in the product or process of a particular industry, such as agriculture, good, petroleum, plastics and rubber.

ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2026 and after)
This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. To graduate on time, you need to make sure you have achieved or surpassed these milestones by the end of each term. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The FSU Core requirements and elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area requirements, unless your program meets these requirements with major courses.
The Exploratory map is designed for students who are not yet ready to select a specific departmental major. Students in Exploratory will receive additional information, assistance, and support from a staff of experienced academic advisors housed within The Advising First Center for Exploratory Students (http://advisingfirst.fsu.edu/exploratory). This Center offers specialized services to effectively guide students and regulate their progress until a departmental major is selected. Academic advisors working with Exploratory students utilize a set of comprehensive and tangible tools that have been established to help students progress in the major selection process. The "STEPS Program" (an acronym for "Students Taking Exploratory Paths to Success") encompasses a developmental academic advising approach involving specific “steps” to move students forward. To progress through the STEPS program, students must attend an introductory New Nole Advising meeting with their assigned advisor (Term 1), and complete the Guide to Decide action items (Term 2). In addition, students are also required to meet with their assigned advisor each term to develop a course schedule for the next semester that simultaneously meets academic requirements and allows students to sample courses in potential majors. It is expected that students will be active participants in their major selection process and attend the workshops and special events co-sponsored by the FSU Career Center and the Advising First Center for Exploratory Students.
Please note that academic advising for Exploratory students is mandatory. It is our expectation that by fully engaging in the advising process, students will be able to move from Exploratory into a departmental major by the end of Term 2. To contact the Advising First Center for Exploratory Students, please call (850) 645-2847 or visit Room G002 Johnston Building (WJB).
Any student who has not determined a major by the end of term two and returns to FSU for their 2nd year will be advised by our Center for Academic Planning. Please contact (850) 644-3430 or visit Room 3200 University Center Building A.

If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student’s registration.
To be certified into the major, you must have completed at least 52 credit hours, have earned a “C minus” or better in the Admission Prerequisite Courses (MAC1105, ECO2013, ECO2023, any leadership course, STA2023, and CTE1401), and have the prerequisites overall GPA of a 3.00 or higher.
