Description of Major

*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*

Individuals completing the Sport Management degree are prepared to seek entry-level employment in some aspect of the sport industry or to pursue an advance degree in Sport Management.

Prerequisite Coursework

Prerequisite Coursework: (9 hours)

Students must complete nine (9) hours of coursework with any combination of the following prefixes: ACG, ADV, BUL, COM, CGS, ECO, FIN, GEB, HFT, MAR, MAN, MMC, ORI, PET, PUR, REE, RMI, RTV, SDS, SPC, and/or STA. Prerequisites are required for admission in preparation for the upper division major; a final grade of C minus or better must be earned in each prerequisite course. Students are encouraged to select prerequisite coursework in consultation with an advisor.

Note: State-wide common prerequisites are always under review. For the most current information and for acceptable alternative courses, visit the “Common Prerequisites Manual.” This is available from the “Student Services” section of http://www.flvc.org .

Admission Requirements:
All prospective students must meet the following minimum requirements for admission:

1. Complete 60 credit hours of college-level coursework.
2. Earn a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA in all attempted college coursework. In calculating your GPA, we use all attempted courses (including D's, F's, and WF's) from every college you have attended. If a course is repeated, we will use both grades.
3. Complete FSU General Education Requirements or earn an AA degree from a Florida public college.
4. Complete the required nine (9) hours of prerequisite courses with a C minus or better.

IMPORTANT: All admission requirements should be completed by the end of spring semester of the Sophomore year.

Requirements for Transfer Students:
Transfer students must satisfy the university’s minimum requirements for admission including demonstration of satisfactory academic progress, college-level English and mathematics proficiency, and world language proficiency. Applicants who will have attempted 90+ semester hours of college credit (including withdrawals and repeated courses) before enrolling at Florida State University must submit a personal statement to the Office of Admissions. The statement must address the reason(s) for transferring to FSU this late in the academic program and should also include a plan for a timely graduation. See http://admissions.fsu.edu/transfer/ for details.

Departmental Application:
All prospective students (including transfer students) must complete the Sport Management departmental application. The application is available online at https://cehhs.fsu.edu/admissions-ug-sm and is due March 1. The Sport Management program only accepts applications for the Fall semester.

Specialized Admission/Limited Enrollment:
The Department of Sport Management limits the number of students admitted to the undergraduate program through a selective admission process. Applicants will be evaluated and ranked based on the following criteria:

1. Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better
2. Completion of 60 credit hours of college coursework by the end of Spring term
3. Completion of FSU General Education requirements or Florida AA degree
4. Completion of 9 credit hours of prerequisite courses

Meeting the minimum requirements for admission does not guarantee admission to the major. Priority will be given to applicants that have completed all requirements by the end of the Spring term of the Sophomore year.

Map General Information

ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2024 and after)

*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*

This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area diversity requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops. The first level (Degree Map Off-track) is placed following grade posting if the student has missed a milestone (course and/or GPA) for the first time in the major. If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student's registration.

The Sport Management major prepares individuals to pursue advanced degrees in sports administration or to seek employment in some aspect of the sports industry. The Sport Management major is a Specialized Admission/Limited Enrollment major and admits to upper division in the fall semester only. You must complete all prerequisite courses and submit an application to the Department on or before March 1st of spring term preceding admissions.

* All students are expected to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 and achieve a grade of C minus or higher in all courses taken. At any point when a student has any combination of three (3) D or F grades, the student may be dismissed from the program. *
