Management (General)

ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2025 and after)

*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*

This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area and diversity requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops. The first level (Degree Map Off-track) is placed following grade posting if the student has missed a milestone (course and/or GPA) for the first time in the major. If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student's registration.

Management is a Specialized Admissions major. To be admitted to the major, you must have completed at least 52 hours, have earned a “C minus“ or better in the Admission Prerequisite Courses (CGS2100 or CGS2518, MAC2233, ECO2013, ECO2023, ACG2021, ACG2071 & STA2023), and have the required overall GPA.

Management is concerned broadly with human, physical, and information resources and how to acquire, utilize, and maintain an optimal resource mix in an organizational setting. The essence of management’s responsibility is decision making about these resources. The major provides a foundation in the various areas of management with specialization in one or more of these areas.

Materials chemistry is a branch of materials science that deals with the synthesis of materials and investigation of their reactivity, stability, and structure-property relationships, both from experimental and theoretical perspectives. Thus, chemists provide the central expertise that bridges the design, implementation, optimization, and application of materials. Materials chemistry is interdisciplinary science that spans multiple branches of chemistry, including inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, and theoretical chemistry. Advances and discoveries in materials chemistry support areas of critical national need, such as generation of clean and efficient energy, synthesis of novel polymers and nanomaterials, development of novel superconductors and magnets, and design of bioinspired materials. The department offers instruction leading to the baccalaureate degree in Materials Chemistry for students planning either careers in the chemical industry or graduate work.

The Pure Mathematics major works best if you can start in the highest math for which you have completed the prerequisites. If you start the Pure Math major in a class lower than MAC2311, you should plan on taking math courses over the summer to get back on course to graduate in four years. If you begin FSU with earned credit for College Algebra, you should take MAC1140 and MAC1114 during Term 1.

This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area and multicultural requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops. To complete a major in Meteorology, you need to complete a minimum of 35 hours of departmental coursework with a departmental GPA of 2.00 or higher; the required coursework in Mathematics constitutes your required minor; chemistry, physics, and statistics courses complete the required coursework.

Ideally Meteorology students would be prepared to enter their first semester in MAC2311. If you start in MAC1105 or 1114 and 1140, you should be prepared to take summer courses in the event you fall behind or need to retake a course.

Middle Eastern Studies

The Departments of Anthropology, Art History, Classics, Economics, History, International Affairs, Modern Languages and Linguistics, Public Administration, and Religion offer an interdisciplinary major and minor in Middle Eastern Studies at the undergraduate level. The program is designed for:

(1) general liberal arts students who wish to learn more about the Middle East;
(2) students who wish to pursue graduate work in this field; and
(3) students who seek employment in or relating to the Middle East.

A BA degree in Middle Eastern Studies responds directly to a national as well as a regional demand for resources and information to educate students, professionals, and the surrounding community about this important region of the world.

A grade of C minus or better is required in all major courses for Middle Eastern Studies.

*A list of Middle Eastern Studies approved major courses can be found here: http://mec.fsu.edu/courses
