ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2025 and after)

*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*

This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area and multicultural requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops. The first level (Degree Map Off-track) is placed following grade posting if the student has missed a milestone (course and/or GPA) for the first time in the major. If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student's registration.

Computational Science is the emerging discipline that provides the tools necessary to solve natural and social science and engineering problems on computers, much the same as mathematics provides the underpinning for theoretical solutions. Graduates of the Computational Science program will be prepared for employment in industry and government laboratories as well as for entry into graduate schools. The skill and knowledge sets acquired by students in this program complement those of scientists and engineers so that, as part of interdisciplinary teams, those students are ideally positioned to help solve science and engineering problems using computers.

The Computational Science major works best if you start with MAC2311 Calculus I in term 1. If you start the major in a class lower than MAC2311, you should plan on taking math courses over the summer to get back on course to graduate in four years. If you begin FSU with earned credit for College Algebra, you should take MAC1140 and MAC1114 during term 1. Students must maintain a 2.00 GPA to remain in good standing in the major.

The Computer Science BA program is designed to prepare students for employment in the computer programming field. Though less math/science oriented than the Bachelors of Science major, the CS/BA major provides a broad background in programming skills, database structure, and computer organization. A student can expect to become proficient at programming in C, C++, and Assembly Language and will have the opportunity to learn other languages as Java, C#, and HTML. As a BA program, participants will need complete 9 hours of humanities/history beyond General Education requirements.

This undergraduate program in computer science has a retention policy:
Upon admission into the program, the student must maintain a 2.50 or higher GPA in courses taken at FSU that are required for the Computer Science major, including core, elective, and collateral courses. Prerequisite courses are excluded from this GPA calculation.

ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2025 and after)

**Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. However, it is available via Online/Distance Learning to all FSU students.*

If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student's registration.

Criminology/Criminal Justice is an interdisciplinary field of study. Included are the contributions and approaches of many of the social and behavioral sciences, as well as areas of study such as law and ethics, as they relate to the phenomenon of crime. The criminology/criminal justice major prepares students for employment in a wide variety of criminal justice agencies, under local, state and federal jurisdictions, as well as the private sector. This major can also serve as a foundation for graduate study in criminology, law, social work, sociology, psychology, and government including public administration.

Students who earn 3 or more grades of less than C minus in any Criminology courses that count for the major will not be permitted to continue in the major nor earn a Criminology degree from Florida State University.

Cyber Criminology (Computer Science)

The interdisciplinary undergraduate degree in Cyber Criminology will teach students how to use computers to facilitate the study of crime and will study how crimes are accomplished through the use of computers. Students must earn a “C” or better in CCJ2020, CCJ3011 and CCJ4700 and a C minus or better in all other courses that count toward the major.

Note: Major code determines graduation requirements and the college within which the student graduates.
