ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2025**)

*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*

This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area and diversity requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops. The first level (Degree Map Off-track) is placed following grade posting if the student has missed a milestone (course and/or GPA) for the first time in the major. If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student's registration.

The German major requires thirty (30) semester hours numbered above 2999, including GER 3400 and GER 3500. For students entering the major from GER 2220, GER 3400 is required to fulfill the composition component; students who enter with advanced proficiency take GER 4420. Students should consult with an advisor to ensure proper placement. Students should have a minimum of six semester hours of skills courses (e.g., GER 3310, GER 3400) and six semester hours of literature, film, and culture classes (e.g., GER 3500, GER 3930). A minimum of nine semester hours must be taken at the 4000 level. A maximum of nine semester hours from among the following coursework may count toward the thirty semester hour requirement: GET 3130, GET 3524, IDS 2467, IDS 3188 and/or IDS 3312. Majors must complete 12-15 hours for a minor (more if required by minor department). All courses taken to fulfill the 30 hours of major course work must be taken for a letter grade. A grade of C minus or better must be earned in each course applied toward any major or minor degree earned in the department.

Placement tests are available through the FSU Assessment & Testing Facility only for French, German and Spanish. If you are placed above a milestone, it is important that you continue with the next milestone in its place. Students with prior proficiency in any language proficiency languages other than French, German, and Spanish must consult an advisor in the Department of Modern Languages for proper course placement. If you are placed above a milestone, it is important that you continue with the next milestone in its place. Total hours above 120 vary based on language proficiency level of student.

**Effective Summer 2025, newly matriculated students who planned to pursue the B.A. in [German] will be reclassified as pursuing the [German] major under the B.A. in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.

Co-majors will be reclassified as pursuing the Dual Languages major under the B.A. in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.

Students pursing the B.A. in [German with Business] will be reclassified as pursuing the [German] major under the B.A. in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and can then choose one of the business minors offered by the College of Business to meet the College of Arts and Sciences minor requirement.**

It provides students with an introduction to working in applied settings, including hospitals, human service agencies, education, and child care settings. The program requires a 12-hour minor or area of concentration in one of a variety of other academic areas which is individually planned and designed to enhance each student’s breadth and/or marketability. With early planning, double majoring or double minoring is a possibility and is encouraged.

Human Resources Management

ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2025 and after)

Human Resource Management is a Specialized Admissions major. To be admitted to the major, you must have completed at least 52 hours, have earned a “C minus“ or better in the Admission Prerequisite Courses (CGS2100 or CGS2518, MAC2233, ECO2013, ECO2023, ACG2021, ACG2071& STA2023), and have the required overall GPA.

The major is designed to provide students with the knowledge required to effectively staff and maintain the workforce of an organization. Beginning with a discussion of human behavior, the major emphasizes the impact of such practices as staffing, compensation, training, and benefits on organizational effectiveness. Special emphasis is placed on analysis and development of change strategies designed to improve individual and organizational performance. Legal and ethical concerns in the treatment of employees are also thoroughly reviewed.

This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. To graduate on time, you need to make sure you have achieved or surpassed these milestones by the end of each term. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term and may use categories of courses such as "GE History" for a General Education History course. The General Education and elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area and diversity requirements, unless your program meets these requirements with major courses.

To complete a major in Interdisciplinary Humanities, a student would need 42 hours of coursework beyond General Education requirements, with 24 hours of coursework in classes numbered above 2999. No minor is required. Students should consult Kathryn Stoddard as their advisor regarding major course requirements. All courses taken to fulfill the 42 hours of major course work must be taken for a letter grade. If you are placed above a milestone, it is important that you continue with the next milestone in its place.

In the emerging connected society, information and information technology are ubiquitous and influence almost all forms of human activity. Modern IT professionals use information and technology to support the goals and cultures of the people and organizations they serve. The Information Technology (IT) major prepares graduates who can apply technology innovatively, manage information purposefully, communicate effectively, and work ethically and productively with people. Successful information technology professionals determine an organization's information needs and then design, create, and manage information systems to meet those needs. In the IT program students participate in hands-on learning experiences designed to develop and hone leadership skills in communication, technology, teamwork, information management, critical thinking, and problem solving.
