ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2024 and after)
*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*
This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. The Sample Schedule serves as a general guideline to help you build a full schedule each term. The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area and diversity requirements unless your program meets these requirements with major courses. Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major. Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops. The first level (Degree Map Off-track) is placed following grade posting if the student has missed a milestone (course and/or GPA) for the first time in the major. If a student is in non-compliance with milestones for two (2) consecutive semesters (excluding summers), a Major Change Required stop is placed on the student's registration.
Emphasis in all courses is on critical thinking and analysis coupled with effective speaking and writing skills. Students who major in Religion and Classics regularly pursue careers in business, education, government, law, and other fields that require a broad liberal arts background.

To complete a major in Religion, a student will need 30 hours of coursework with grades of C minus or better. Religion courses are divided into the following three distribution areas: Western, Asian or African, and Issues & Approaches. Majors must complete one course from each area. The department’s undergraduate advisors can counsel majors on which courses fall into these areas if questions arise. In addition, at least six courses must be at the 3/4000 level.
Finally, majors must take REL4044 ("What Is Religion? What Is Religious Studies?"), as well as one course in a seminar-style format.

Risk Management and Insurance is a Specialized Admissions major. To be admitted to the major, you must have completed at least 52 hours, have earned a “C minus“ or better in the Admission Prerequisite Courses (CGS2100 or CGS2518, MAC2233, ECO2013, ECO2023, ACG2021, ACG2071 & STA2023), and have the required overall GPA.
The program permits the student to specialize in insurance-related studies. The field of insurance offers challenging work and diverse opportunities for non-sales careers as well as providing protection to individuals, groups, and industries. The program emphasizes corporate insurance and related products. The objective of the curriculum is to acquaint students with the effects of risk and uncertainty upon business and society. The analysis of risk and the methods of meeting risk are placed in proper perspective as part of a broad business management curriculum.
Students should complete diversity requirements through their General Education coursework.

ACADEMIC MAP (Effective Summer 2022 and after)
*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*
This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years and are to be completed by the end of the semester in which they are listed.
The Sociology major consists of 30 hours of major coursework and a 12 – 18 hour minor both with grades of "C minus" or higher.

The Spanish major requires thirty semester hours above SPN 2220, including at least one SPW 3000-level literature course, a departmental linguistics course (usually LIN 3041; SPN 4700, SPN 4701, SPN 4780, SPN 4810, SPN 4840 or a Special Topics in Hispanic Linguistics with the number SPN 4930 when LIN 3041 is used for a major in Linguistics), and a minimum of twelve semester hours at the 4000 level. Only one SPT course may count toward the major. SPN3400 is not open to heritage speakers, they should take SPN3350 instead. Majors must complete 12-18 hours for a minor. All courses taken to fulfill the 30 hours of major course work must be taken for a letter grade. A grade of C minus or better must be earned in each course applied toward any major or minor degree earned in the department.
Placement tests are available through the FSU Assessment & Testing Facility for French, German and Spanish. Students with prior proficiency in languages other than French, German, and Spanish must consult an advisor in the Department of Modern Languages for proper course placement. If you are placed above a milestone, it is important that you continue with the next milestone in its place. Total hours above 120 vary based on language proficiency level of student.
